But when my grandfather fell ill and I drove to see him frequently, I realized that, like Dorothy of KS, there's no place like the Midwest. Everything I need is here in Iowa. I especially loved your last couple of paragraphs. So beautifully worded. And as for the phrase "a space that often feels littered with giant rocks and insurmountable hills," isn't that what artists long to draw or paint? When hills and rocks block your way, simply paint them. They will become your way.
