My dear Midwest Creatives,
No matter what or how you’re celebrating, I hope today and this entire weekend have been filled with peace, love, joy, calm, or whatever you needed it to be.
As 2023 draws to a close, I’m starting to think more deeply about essays I’d like to tackle this upcoming year. I am so proud of how I’ve grown my writing practice this last year, and I’m excited to grow it even further.
I see these essays as more complex, thoughtful, and expansive than what I write on a weekly basis. They’re going to require a deeper look into the world, but also a deeper look into myself.
So now I am tapping into my Midwest Creative community for support as I start my 2024 writing journey.
I’m looking for recommendations of personal essays, articles, memoir, anything related to the following subjects:
Friendship
Childhood friendships
Aging and all of our feelings around it
The passing nature of time
Chronic illness
Health advocacy
Have you read anything around any of these subjects that sparked something in you? Changed the way you thought about yourself, or finally affirmed what you’ve been feeling all along? What challenges you, helped you to grow as a reader and/or a writer?
Let me know in the comments!
The Midwest Creative is a proud member of the Iowa Writers Collaborative. Please consider a subscription to my colleagues’ work to support storytelling across the state of Iowa. All of these authors provide content for free, with paid subscription options. Pick one or more, and help sustain this movement.
I’ll be following closely to see this list of recommendations 😉Maybe 2024 will bring me a (probably much needed) expanded reading genre list. And as always, I look forward to your thoughts and views on these subjects!
Aging and all of our feelings around it! It’s nice to hear the realizations others encounter as well
